Since Carl's 2009 death, Sirdeaner has become an anti-bullying advocate and has testified before state and federal officials about the topic.
She had repeatedly asked Carl's school to address the bullying problem after being concerned about her son, before his 2009 death.
His suicide, which had been the fourth that year involving middle school students, highlighted the need for systematic and effective responses to the endemic problem of bullying and harassment at schools.
